Eine Besonderheit der Vergangenheit ist "used to". Es drückt aus, dass man früher etwas gewohnt war zu tun. (use.. Gebrauch) – es aber heute nicht mehr macht.

"Did not use to.." bedeutet, dass man etwas früher nicht gemacht hat.

When I was six, I used to play with dolls.
When I was 16 I did not use to play with dolls anymore.

Vorsicht: nach did... use in der Grundform.
